As the old saying goes, Marriage follows love, naturally. However, in between the two, there is one crucial step that can't be missed--- the wedding! And with a wedding, comes planning. Figuring out just what needs to be done & when it needs to be done can be quite overwhelming, however, we are here to help! Read below to see a timeline of planning simplified, to help you conquer all of your wedding planning tasks with ease.

12 Months Out-- Let the Planning Begin!

I know what you are thinking... "a year is plenty of time. I can wait!" We're here to tell you that the sooner you knock out the "big" things, the more reassured + less stressful the whole process will be. At the 12 month mark, we recommend conquering these major steps:

  1. Create Budget : This is the baseline for all your planning to follow. Having a budget established will help you to be both realistic + timely.

  2. Draft Guest List : Similarly to your budget, this is a crucial piece to have established for further planning. This will help to determine your venue, food, drinks, etc.

  3. Book Your Photographer : Though it may seem as if wedding photographers are in abundance these days, do not be fooled. Many of these photographers book out over a year in advance, + can be picky about what they take on! Finding a good match for what you are envisioning for both engagement photos + the wedding takes time and needs to be booked well before any shoots happen.

  4. Secure Your Wedding Venue : Ah, the dreaded venue search. Doing this a year out allows you to find options, discuss pricing, + solidify your dream spot. No rush, no panic.

  5. Last, but of course not least, Find + Order Your Dress : Finding *the* dress is probably already on your mind at this point, and we don't blame you! This is such a fun + exciting part of the process. Similar to booking your venue, finding your dress takes time. However, booking your venue is a one stop shop. Ordering a dress, making changes, + having alterations... that takes time. Like 6-8 months time. Our dresses are made to order, not made to fit-- meaning your dress is made for you. That being said, booking your appointment a year out is a great start! If for some reason you have a short engagement or need a dress sooner than expected, we have you covered. If by chance you find a dress that you love that fits you off the rack, you can purchase it then and there! Another option is finding a dress that is already in stock in your size + ready to ship. Either option is a great route to go if you are in a pinch! Being by appointment only, we will give you our full attention to learn your wants + needs, as well as your timeline!

Once the *big* things are finished, you can finally get down to finalizing all the unique details that make your wedding, yours.

At the 10 month mark, we suggest choosing your officiant, deciding on vendors (decor, florals, drinks, you name it), selecting your bridal party, + taking engagement photos with your hunny!

Time for the fun! Around the 6-8 month mark, you will be making all the fun decisions. Booking your glam squad, the honeymoon, sampling all the food + all the cake, ordering your wedding party attire, + purchasing wedding bands are on the agenda! This is also the time that you will want to make an appointment to figure out the tuxes needed for your future hubby + his best guys. This is where we have you covered!

Similar to bridal, we also are by appointment only for tuxes + suits! During your appointment, we will discuss all things color, fit, + details. Before coming in, we recommend having all the picture inspo. ready so we can perfectly match what you are looking for! It is also very helpful if you have a swatch of the colors you are wanting to match! We will also grab your fiancé's measurements so we have them when it is time to order. The best part? With a party of 5 or more, your his tux is free!

The *not* so little things are next up on the planning schedule, right around the 4 month mark! Choosing your wedding day fragrance (because why not have a scent you remember forever?), ordering your shoes + accessories, + booking your transportation are some details that shouldn't be overlooked!

Around the 2 month mark you can breathe easy, since you handled a majority of your planning early on-- go you! With 2 months to go, we recommend handling those final details such as writing your vows, sending out your invites, ordering gifts for your bridal party, + taking your dress in for dress alterations!

At 6 weeks out, you can really just enjoy yourself! Go on... have some wine, kick back at your bridal party, go out with your girls for your bachelorette, + grab your marriage license for the big day!

A month from your big day, just take an hour to finalize your headcount + confirm your vendor arrangements. Easy, peasy!

At about 2 weeks out, things start getting real! Have your final dress fitting, do your hair + makeup trial! Time to really visualize your whole look for your special day! Notice how the list keeps getting shorter and shorter... (;

....& just like that, it's here! Your special day is here! The week of we recommend a heavy dose of relaxation + prep to make you feel your best. Think-- spa day vibes. Nails done, a massage, a nice tan, all the above! The only thing left to do is pick up your dress + the tux rentals, & you are ready to walk down the aisle!

We hope this helped ease your mind if you are a bride-to-be planning the big day! Our best advice is to just take one task at a time, + enjoy the process as much as possible.

This is such a special time in life, & should be memorable + fun! When push comes to shove, we know some people you can call for advice! (;

xoxo,

Michaela

[mom]

noun
  1. a person’s mother or one’s mother. a term of endearment used to refer to a woman or girl who is admired.

adjective
  1. beautiful or stylish; amazing; to be admired.

verb
  1. to act as a mother toward; act maternally toward, sometimes in an excessive way

  2. to refer to (an admired woman or girl) as “mom”

Now being a mom myself, my gratitude, understanding, and appreciation for all mothers, including my own, has grown so much.

Mom. The one who loves and cares about us oh so much! Sometimes she may ask too many questions, sometimes she may hold us too tight, and sometimes she may even do something we didn't ask her to. But it is just because she cares so hard and so deep!

Mom's + Grandma's + Motherly figures are all to be celebrated! I always compliment the brides that allow their mothers + grandmothers to be a part of their dress shopping experience, because some brides don't have all those motherly figures to celebrate this exciting time of their lives with!

Brides - I know your momma may be a pain point as you are trying to navigate and plan a wedding. You may be tired of her inputting her ideas and opinions, but I have a few tips on how to involve her in this planning process.

Listen.

She is patient with you, be patient with her in return. Just like she will listen to us when we have a great idea or are frustrated + mad + sad. Be the listening ear in return. She is going to ask questions you don't have answers for. That is OK. She is just asking because she cares. Listen to her question and her possible solution. She may have an idea you didn't think about. And she may even be willing to take that task off your plate.

Ask for her opinions.

Even though she isn't planning a wedding in 2022, she has been at the same stage of life as you. She understands where you are coming from. She may keep her thoughts and ideas inside until she is asked, so ask her. Ask her for advice. Ask her for her thoughts. She knows this is your special day and she wants everything done to your standard. But let her share in your special day, because sometimes as hard as it is to admit, it is just as much her special day! This is a huge milestone for her as it is for you!

Help her in return.

When it comes to helping your mom find the perfect attire for your wedding. Help her feel beautiful + confident! She deserves it. Take time to shop with her. She was your hype girl, now do that for her in return! Talk through options, she needs that reassurance and guidance!

I know, I know. Our relationships with our moms aren't always sunshine and rainbows. We aren't always going to see eye to eye, we aren't going to agree on everything, but no matter what, our mommas are always going to be there for us! Big big love for all moms + grandmas + motherly figures on this Mother's Day celebration!

XOXO - Morgan

Hey all, Michaela here! I joined The Dress by Morgan Lynn back in January, and am here to help with all the creatives + more! Having an Apparel Merchandising and Design degree, I want to chat a little about the different silhouettes of wedding dresses, and all the information you need to know before your appointment.

Picture this: the day has finally come to find your dream dress for your dream day. You are giddy + excited, and have all your favorite people by your side. Where to begin?

During your appointment, one of the first questions we will ask is what type of silhouette are you imagining for your big day? We love to hear all of your hopes and dreams right from the start, so we can do our best to make those happen! However, sometimes our plans can take a small detour and lead to something even better than we could imagine. Having an open mind + a little context on the different dress styles we offer will help to find you everything you are wanting in a wedding dress! Without further adieu, let's introduce you to our lineup of beautiful silhouettes to choose from, and all the details about them!

The A-Line:

We don't call this shape amazing for no reason! The A-Line Silhouette is characterized by a fitted waistline and flared skirt, with an easy + breezy, comfortable fit. Not only is it insanely comfortable, but also incredibly flattering for all body types with a beautiful accentuated waistline. The best part? The A-line silhouette comes in endless styles, so whether you are wanting a glam moment, or something more simple, we can find dress for you!

The Fit + Flare:

Close your eyes and picture your perfect wedding dress. Does it highlight your waist? Skim over your hips? Have some flare + a wider bottom? Well we have the perfect silhouette for you. The Fit + Flare style is a classic + flirty option, with the main focus being on the hips! This style of dress is stunning on all body types, but especially on hour glass figures. A fit + flare fits more snuggly than an A-line, but still has quite a bit of movement, making it a very comfortable option! This dress silhouette is very versatile as you can find endless styles of the fit + flare. With sleeves, or without. Embellishments or minimalist. Exaggerated flare or subtle. Lace or sparkle. The options are endless!

The Ball Gown:

Ah, the ballgown. Every little girl's dream! The ball gown silhouette has a fitted bodice with a voluminous skirt, and is gorgeous on all body types. This shape slightly camouflages the hips, waist, and midsection, while drawing the eye to the detailed bodice and full skirt. Worried about being weighed down, but desperately wanting a ball gown style? No worries! Many ball gown silhouettes come with a hook on the back of the dress to lift off the ground and secure while dancing. The beauty of the ball gown is that it can come in all kinds of variations, with different fabrics! From a tiered design, to an all satin gown, this style of dress is timeless!

The Mermaid:

Hello curves! The Mermaid Silhouette allows you to show off all of your curves and feel sexy + beautiful on your big day. This style of dress is fitted to the knee, with a flared bottom to the floor. Mermaid wedding dresses look best on slender or hour glass body shapes, due to the dramatic fit. Though these dresses are beautiful, they are less functional + comfortable to move about in compared to the other silhouettes. With the tighter fit to the knee, it can really restrict movement on your big day. Nevertheless, if comfort isn't your biggest concern, this dress silhouette is perfect for an elegant + dramatic moment.

... and that's our lineup! We hope you enjoyed reading all about the different silhouette styles and what makes each one so unique. We believe all brides look best in whatever they feel best in, and we truly mean that! But, if you need help figuring out which dress styles to try, you know who to call! (;

Until next time..

XOXO - Michaela
